The cold chain facility which was discontinued in 2014 affecting the exports for over years is soon to open anew by June this year.
The exports of perishable agri-produce, especially of vegetables and fruits from the farmland of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir to other countries will soon have a much smoother trip with the construction of cold chain facilities at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar and Chandigarh International Airport.
The cold chain facility at Amritsar airport will be functional by June this year and by December it will be operational in Chandigarh. In the absence of cold chain infrastructure at these airports, exporters are either dispirited or forced to export the shipments from Delhi, resulting in high logistic costs.
According to the authorities, the cold chain facility at Amritsar airport has been in operation since 2013 and was maintained and operated by Punjab Agri Export Corporation Ltd (PAGREXO).
