KDHP Company Pvt Ltd, Munnar, the largest tea company in south India and an associate company of Tata Global Beverages Ltd that produces the White Tea has bagged the silver medal in the global tea championship.
White tea is a premium tea produced from handpicked tea buds and retails at Rs. 12,000 per kg.
KDHP produces 25 million kgs of tea annually from its 16 factories. In order to meet the growing demand for specialty teas, KDHP sells its range of teas through the various retail outlets as well as through online.
Managing director and CEO of the company K. Mathew Abraham detailed out that at 2019 fall hot loose leaf tea competition held in the USA, Ripple White Tea of KDHP was ranked No. 1 in the loose White Tea category. Although, ranked top in the category, KDHP bagged the silver medal based on the points scored on a 100 point scale.
It is an important achievement for the country as China is known to produce the best white teas in the world,” stated Abraham and added that it is a vindication of the company’s concerted efforts in producing some of finest specialty teas from its tea plantations spread across Munnar, ranging from an elevation of 4000 to 7200 ft.
The global tea championship is an independent competition judged by industry professionals which helps establish standards of excellence in the tea industry through an acclaimed and professional evaluation of the best tasting specialty teas of the highest quality.
