Amul Ice Cream back on air with some alteration

Dec 29, 2018

AMUL ice cream advertisements were sustained ever since Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) led AMUL  to court against use of content in manufacturing the treat. The HUL opined that the comparison of frozen dessert made with vanaspati directly has affected its products. According to recent report, AMUL is permitted and now can air its ads once again but without mentioning its content.

“The appellant (GCMMF) would be free to use the said TVCs after deleting the portion which has been found to be disparaging the product frozen dessert,” said a division bench of Bombay High Court comprising of Justices B.R. Gavai and Riyaz I. Chagla. The ads shown by the brand encouraged the people to pick ice cream rather than frozen desserts due to which HUL filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court. HUL’s brand, Kwality Walls is one of the largest frozen dessert brands in the country which was affected by the ads. HUL also filed for damages for the same.
