The 16th edition of the Sattvik Food Festival will be held in Ahmedabad from 22nd to 25th December. The major emphasis is laid on women farmers’ as they will be leading the festival. The festival will witness 70% of the products made and sold by these women farmers. The total participation of farmers at the festival is around 150.
Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) organizes this event annually, with special highlights will be traditional food, conservation of agro-biodiversity as well as rising demand for rare nutritional crops entering Indian market. The festival will be seen promoting millets with at least two dishes made from millets will be available at each stall. This show will enable farmers to sell directly to the consumers via a dedicated corner called the ‘Khedut Haat’.
“This is the first time we will have more than 50% women farmers participating. There will 50 women farmers to sell agricultural dry products. Overall, 70% women farmers will participate this year. This will empower them and help them understand consumer demands,” said Ramesh Patel, SRISTI secretary while speaking to media.
