As consumers seek healthier yet affordable food choices, premium home-cooked meals with robust flavours are set to lead next year’s trends, according to Tastewise’s latest report. The AI-driven analysis examined data from 7.14 million consumers, 45 million social media posts, 6.3 million recipes, and 168 million dishes across 1.1 million restaurants.

Inflationary pressures, which added an average of 6.8% to global living costs last year, have not diminished consumers’ appetite for exciting taste experiences. Tastewise identified five key trends that will shape the food and beverage industry in 2025:

1.     Versatile Ingredients

Two standout spice trends for 2025 are black lime and Hawaij. Hawaij, a Yemeni spice blend featuring ingredients like ginger, cardamom, turmeric, and cinnamon, offers a warm, earthy alternative to overly sweet pumpkin spice. Black lime, with its tangy, smoky flavour, is perfect for savoury dishes, stews, and marinades.

2.     Sustainability

Sustainability remains a central focus, with brands emphasizing water management, regenerative agriculture, and carbon footprint reduction. Companies aligning their operations with environmental responsibility are expected to thrive.

3.     Hyper-Personalized Nutrition

The rising popularity of GLP-1 medications highlights a growing consumer desire for functional foods that aid in weight management, hormone regulation, and overall wellness. Personalized nutrition solutions are becoming a mainstream expectation.

4.     Global Cuisine on Main Street

Adventurous palates are reshaping the American dining scene. Alongside Middle Eastern flavours, Filipino cuisine and Asian street foods are carving out significant space, challenging traditional staples like burgers and fries.
