Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai proposed establishing a mini-Punjab in central Karnataka by cultivating a range of horticulture crops and establishing over 100 food processing plants in the area between the Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers.
“The seven to eight lakh hectares of land between the Tungabhadra and Krishna rivers may be utilised for a range of horticultural crops, with room for over 100 food processing plants. It would be similar to a mini-Punjab, providing jobs via the cultivation of natural horticulture crops “Bommai stated this when discussing his vision for the state.
His speech was organised by the Karnataka Media Academy (KMA) for its 40th Foundation Day celebration, which was streamed live on social media. On this occasion, Bommai unveiled the KMA logo.
Karnataka, according to the Chief Minister, is blessed with ten agro-climatic zones, which distinguishes the state from others. The zones allow the state to cultivate a range of crops, which he believes should be taken advantage of.
“The state is also endowed with a lot of rivers that run from west to east into neighbouring states and must be tapped and appropriately utilised,” he said.
In addition, the Chief Minister stated that he intends to release a policy on the use of the 350-kilometer coastline for tourist and port development.
“We will make a decision on inland and hinterland development this week. We can also investigate that option, given that ports account for 60% of Indonesia’s economic growth “He stated.
Bommai also intended to investigate temples, seaside, and cultural tourism through upgrading ports and airports.
He also stated that education is a priority, with a focus on technical education in high schools and boosting science and math instruction in rural regions.
“The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is now contributed by 30% of the population, and this figure has to be improved. In this sense, we want SC/ST/OBC and minority women, as well as their male counterparts, to become skilled employees and participate in economic activities “Bommai stated.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that district hospitals are being upgraded, that the economically weaker sections and destitutes are being protected, that an employment-centric policy for job creation is being implemented, and that art, culture, music, and literature are being prioritised.
