Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is visiting Brazil to attend the 15th BRICS Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting in Brasilia. He is leading the Indian team at this important global event, where agriculture leaders from 11 countries—including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran—have gathered.
Focus on Better Farming for All
The main theme of the meeting is “Promoting Inclusive and Sustainable Agriculture through Cooperation, Innovation, and Fair Trade.” In simple terms, the countries will discuss how they can work together to make farming more modern, fair, and environmentally friendly for everyone.
Talks with Brazil on Farming and Food Security
During his visit, Chouhan will hold special one-on-one meetings with Brazil’s top agriculture leaders:
- Carlos Fávaro, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock
- Luiz Teixeira, Minister of Family Farming
These talks will focus on how India and Brazil can team up in areas like new farm technology, rural growth, and making food supplies more secure for the future.
Meeting Agribusiness Leaders in São Paulo
Chouhan will also visit São Paulo, Brazil’s business hub, to meet with heads of major farming companies and the Brazilian Vegetable Oil Industries Association. These meetings aim to explore investment and partnership opportunities in the farming and food sector, including the production of oilseeds and other crops.
Tree Planting Drive for a Noble Cause
In a special gesture, the minister will take part in a tree planting event at the Indian Embassy in Brasilia under the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name). This initiative is meant to raise awareness about the environment and honour the spirit of motherhood.
Connect with Indian Community in Brazil
Chouhan will also meet the Indian community living in São Paulo, appreciating their role in maintaining strong ties between the two countries and promoting Indian culture abroad.
Strengthening India’s Role in Global Farming
Through this visit, India is showing its strong commitment to working closely with other nations to improve farming practices, share technology, and ensure fair trade. The visit is also an important step in deepening India’s friendship with Brazil, especially in agriculture and rural development.
