UFlex Bags Indian Patent for Eco-Friendly Heat Seal Coating, Pioneers Sustainable Pkg Innovation

UFlex Ltd., India’s largest multinational flexible packaging and solutions company, has secured an Indian patent (No. 567989) for its latest green innovation — a “Waterborne Heat Seal Coating Composition and a Process for its Preparation.” This patented solution is a significant step forward in sustainable packaging, offering an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional plastic-based coatings.

Designed for heat-sealable applications, the new coating provides excellent grease and oil resistance, particularly on kraft paper, and is suited for blister packaging used in food wraps, takeaway boxes, and packaging for personal care and toy products. The formulation is compliant with food safety standards and meets the USFDA regulations for food contact materials.

One of the standout features of the patented coating is its user-friendly, ready-to-use nature, which eliminates the need for dilution. It also offers a low sealing initiation temperature, strong heat seal performance, and high hot tack strength — key performance parameters in high-speed packaging lines.

“This innovation is a testament to UFlex’s commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge R&D,” the company said in a statement. Developed by its chemicals division, the waterborne coating underscores UFlex’s leadership in packaging chemicals, including inks, adhesives, and specialty coatings. The company’s NABL-accredited R&D center, recognised under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, played a crucial role in the development of the product.

As demand for biodegradable and eco-friendly packaging continues to rise globally, UFlex’s latest patented solution adds to its growing portfolio of sustainable technologies, reinforcing its position as a frontrunner in green packaging innovation.
