Britannia Boosts Whole Grain, Cuts Sugar and Sodium in Health-Focused Overhaul: Nusli Wadia

Biscuit major Britannia Industries is stepping up its health and wellness game by significantly increasing the whole grain content in its products while reducing sugar and sodium levels, chairman Nusli Wadia told shareholders at the company’s 106th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held virtually on Monday.

In its FY25 annual report, Britannia revealed that between 2018-19 and 2024-25, whole grain content in its products has risen by more than three-and-a-half times, while sugar levels have been cut by 3.4% and sodium levels by 11.9%.

Wadia said the company will continue to enhance its product portfolio to meet evolving consumer preferences and health priorities. He highlighted that FY25 was marked by shifting market dynamics, accelerating digital transformation, and subdued consumer demand for much of the year.

Despite a “complex macroeconomic environment” characterized by commodity inflation, fluctuating demand, and global economic uncertainties, Britannia remained resilient by implementing cost-efficiency measures across its value chain to boost productivity and mitigate inflationary pressures.

On the demand front, Wadia noted early signs of rural market recovery, supported by growth in agricultural and manufacturing activities in select sectors.

“Amidst these challenges, the company responded with agility and stayed competitive in the packaged food industry,” Wadia said, reaffirming Britannia’s commitment to healthier offerings in its portfolio.
