Reliance Consumer Products Acquires Majority Stake in Tamil Nadu’s Udhaiyam Brand

Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods arm of Reliance Industries Ltd, has acquired a majority stake in Tamil Nadu-based Udhaiyams Agro Foods Pvt Ltd for an undisclosed amount, strengthening its presence in the branded staples segment.

Under the agreement, RCPL will hold a controlling stake in the company, while the existing promoters, S Sudhakar and S Dinakar, will retain a minority shareholding.

Udhaiyams Agro Foods, best known for its ‘Udhaiyam’ brand, has a legacy spanning more than three decades and enjoys a strong market presence in Tamil Nadu. The brand operates across key staple and food categories, including rice, spices, snacks and idli batter, supported by a wide distribution network.

Following the transaction, Udhaiyam will come under the RCPL umbrella, adding depth to Reliance Consumer Products’ staples portfolio, the company said in a statement.

Commenting on the acquisition, T Krishnakumar, Director, Reliance Consumer Products Ltd, said Udhaiyam is a well-established brand that reflects Tamil Nadu’s rich food heritage and long-standing commitment to quality. He added that the partnership would help scale Udhaiyam into a national brand, extending its reach beyond Tamil Nadu to consumers across India.

“This joint venture further strengthens our presence in the branded staples space and aligns with our vision of offering global quality at affordable prices to millions of Indian consumers,” Krishnakumar said.

Welcoming the partnership, Udhaiyams Agro Foods Managing Director S Sudhakar said the association with RCPL opens up new growth opportunities for the brand. He expressed confidence that, with Reliance leading its expansion, Udhaiyam’s legacy and regional authenticity would resonate with consumers across markets nationwide.
