Cargill showcases Gemini brand at Kurkumbh plant in Maharashtra

Marking three decades of its flagship edible oil brand Gemini, Cargill opened the doors of its Kurkumbh plant in Maharashtra, offering a closer look at its world-class manufacturing standards, stringent food safety systems, and quality practices. The company also outlined its plans to further strengthen its edible oils business in India.

The visit was hosted by Dheeraj Talreja, vice president and managing director, Cargill Food South Asia, who highlighted the company’s growth priorities and the strategic importance of the Maharashtra market, where it holds a leadership position. Marathi actor Priya Bapat also joined the visit along with select consumers, influencers, and media representatives, sharing her perspective as a long-time user of the brand.

Maharashtra remains a key market for the brand, supported by a strong consumer base and high consumption of multiple edible oils such as sunflower, soybean, groundnut, and cottonseed. With one of the highest per capita GDP levels in the country, the state serves as a strategically important geography and a logistics backbone for Cargill’s diversified edible oils portfolio.

Cargill has maintained a manufacturing presence in Kurkumbh since 2005. The plant employs over 500 people, including full-time and contractual workers, engaged in refining and packaging a wide range of edible oils.

“With a strong legacy of over 30 years, Gemini is known for its unshakable consumer trust and superior product quality. As we look ahead, the brand is evolving into a future-ready edible oils platform, rooted in Indian traditions while adapting to modern consumers through premiumisation, digital engagement, and next-generation distribution channels,” said Talreja.
