Amul Enters Spanish Market: GCMMF Launches Milk in Madrid and Barcelona, Eyes Broader EU Expansion

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), India’s largest dairy cooperative and marketer of the Amul brand, has launched its milk products in Spain as part of its growing global footprint. The launch was announced in Madrid on June 4, 2025, in collaboration with Spain’s leading dairy cooperative, Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP).

Initially, Amul Gold full-cream milk—offered in six-month shelf-life tetra packs—will be available in Madrid and Barcelona. The product will later expand to other Spanish cities, including Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, and Cordoba, as well as Lisbon in Portugal.

The launch event was hosted at the Embassy of India in Madrid and attended by Ambassador Dinesh K Patnaik, senior officials from Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, and representatives from both GCMMF and COVAP.

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMF, emphasized the partnership’s significance, noting that it would bring the nutritional benefits of Amul milk to Spanish consumers. He also confirmed that market placement of the product has already begun.

Amul’s European expansion follows its U.S. fresh milk launch last year and is part of a broader strategy to introduce its dairy products in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Backed by over 3.6 million dairy farmers, GCMMF processes more than 12 billion litres of milk annually and operates 112 dairy plants across India. The federation recorded a revenue of ₹65,911 crore last fiscal, marking an 11% increase year-on-year.

COVAP, founded in 1959, is one of Europe’s most technologically advanced dairy processors, handling over 400 million litres annually and exporting to more than 30 countries.

Amul is currently ranked as the world’s strongest dairy brand and the eighth-largest milk processor globally, according to IFCN rankings.Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), India’s largest dairy cooperative and marketer of the Amul brand, has launched its milk products in Spain as part of its growing global footprint.
