Dr. R. S. Sodhi, MD, GCMMF is endorsed for growing Amul’s business from Rs. 8005 crores to Rs. 39238 crores during a decade of his tenure. Sodhi has been universally elected to the Board of the International Dairy Federation (IDF) at the IDF’s General Assembly on June 1, 2021.Indian National Committee nominated Dr. Sodhi’s name to the IDF which was accepted without any doubt. The General Assembly was held on World Milk Day, which is celebrated on June 1st annually.“lt’s an honour for me to represent the world’s largest milk producing country and contribute to promoting Sustainable Goals of dairying and also meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”, addressed Sodhi as soon as he was elected to the highest global dairy body.Later, in conversation with Indian cooperatives, Sodhi stated that India’s cooperative approach is an essential strategy for empowering millions of dairy farmers to compete on a level playgorund in the market and receive a fair share of the value of milk. Sodhi emphasised that the impressive growth and self-sufficiency in the dairy sector have been made possible by the
combined efforts of dairy farmers, the NDDB, Government of India, and many other stakeholders.Sodhi has 39 years of experience with Amul, having taken over as its MD in 2010.This year also indicates the only co-operative news portal, www.indiancooperative.com that was launched during this time. Under the leadership of Sodhi, Amul’s milk procurement price paid to farmers has increased by 140 percent since last decade.Sodhi also launched several novel marketing campaigns, including the promotion of milk as the “world’s original energy drink,” the “Eat Milk” campaign, which encourages Indians of ages to include dairy products in every meal, and not to forget the best jingle “Amul Doodh Peeta Hai India” advising children and youth alike to consumer milk every day.He is accredited to launch more than 200 new products during his tenure as Managing Director. Under the direction of Dr. R S Sodhi, in order to increase animal productivity, Amul has launched a Strategic Productivity Enhancement Programme, and to improve animal fertility, Amul has launched a Fertility Improvement Programme (FIP).A dedicated and experienced team of Veterinary doctors conducted animal camps in selected villages as part of this programme. Under his leadership, the Amul Cooperativemovement’s 36 lakh farmers planted 8.3 crore saplings over a 14-year period to help conserve our natural environment and its sustainability.
