Assam is preparing to introduce a single brand name for milk, similar to Gujarat’s “Amul” and Karnataka’s “Nandini,” in order to enhance quality control and increase incentives for milk producers. On the eve of his state’s two-year election campaign, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the comment.
Speaking to the media, Sarma said that the state government will add 5 to the market price of each litre of milk sold to dairy cooperatives. According to reports, the process would start on June 1, 2023. This effort aims to motivate milk producers across the state and boost milk output.
Additionally, all milk produced in the state will be marketed under a single brand name to preserve quality control. In addition to improving milk quality, this will help Assam’s dairy sector build a strong brand. According to media sources, successful models like “Amul” in Gujarat and “Nandini” in Karnataka served as inspiration for Assam’s idea of a single milk brand name. These businesses have not only seen tremendous success in their respective regions but have also gained widespread recognition across the nation.
