Chile is interested in expanding its market presence in India, specifically in smaller cities. Chile is the first Latin American country to sign a trade agreement with India, and they have had a partial scope agreement in place since 2017. Ignacio Fernandez Ruiz, the General Director of ProChile, which promotes exports, stated that Chile aims to tap into the markets of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in India.
Chile has already established itself in the agro-products segment in major Indian cities and now seeks to promote its premium products, such as walnuts and other dry fruits, in smaller cities. They also plan to launch a brand-building campaign, including a masterclass on Chilean wines and other events, to inform customers about the origin of their products.
ProChile is engaging in discussions with local importers and businesses to identify new markets and opportunities in India. Currently, Chile exports various products like walnuts, wines, cherries, kiwis, and prunes to India. They are eager to expand the range of food products covered under the preferential trade agreement between the two countries.
Chile aims to strengthen and enhance its trade relationship with India by leveraging its existing trade agreement and exploring opportunities for increased collaboration and trade expansion.
