Chouhan Clears ₹13,890 Crore Crop Procurement Plan for Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat

Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has approved large-scale procurement of pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat for the Kharif 2025–26 season. The move, worth ₹13,890.60 crore, is expected to benefit farmers in both states directly.

Chouhan sanctioned 100% procurement of urad (black lentils) and tur (pigeon pea) from farmers, while also approving the purchase of moong (green gram), sesame, and groundnut in Uttar Pradesh, along with soybean, moong, and groundnut in Gujarat. He instructed that the procurement process be carried out in a fully transparent and digital manner to safeguard farmers’ interests.

The approval came during a virtual meeting chaired by Chouhan, attended by Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, and senior officials from both state and central governments.

Digital & Transparent Mechanism

Chouhan emphasised that only genuine farmers should benefit from the scheme, ruling out any role for middlemen. To ensure transparency, Aadhaar-based biometric or facial authentication and POS machines — about 350 in Uttar Pradesh and 400 in Gujarat — will be installed at procurement centres. Farmers will pre-register with NAFED and NCCF, and all transactions will be executed digitally via the e-Samriddhi and e-Samyukti portals, with payments made directly into farmers’ bank accounts.

Chouhan also indicated that procurement quantities could be revised after the release of the first advance estimates of Kharif 2025–26, ensuring maximum benefit for farmers. He reiterated that the government’s digital and transparent system guarantees every eligible farmer the right to sell crops at MSP and receive timely payments.
