Deepak Saxena, the associate director of Jaipur-based consumer advocacy group CUTS International, has been appointed as a member representing the consumer segment in the Central Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
CUTS International, established in 1983–84 as a rural development communication initiative, has grown into a prominent advocate for consumer rights, particularly in food safety. The organization has actively campaigned for robust food labelling regulations and the elimination of trans fats in India. It has played a pivotal role in providing comprehensive feedback on draft regulations, collaborating with FSSAI in national consultations, and advocating to protect consumer interests during the formulation of regulatory frameworks.
This marks the third representation of CUTS International in the esteemed FSSAI committee, underscoring its ongoing commitment to championing consumer rights in India’s food safety landscape.
Deepak Saxena’s tenure on the committee will extend until July 2025. Headquartered in Jaipur, Rajasthan, CUTS International operates extensively across India and in more than 30 countries.
