Del Monte Foods, a prominent player in the Indian food and beverage industry, has announced the appointment of Abhinav Kapoor as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Kapoor steps into the role with an impressive track record, having served as Vice President of Sales at VIP Industries. There, he managed profit and loss responsibilities, multiple sales channels, and an extensive distribution network.
With over two decades of experience in sales and distribution within consumer businesses, Kapoor brings a wealth of knowledge to Del Monte Foods. His career spans leadership roles at renowned companies including CavinKare, Britannia Industries, Mondelez, and Marico. His expertise is expected to drive Del Monte’s growth and strategic direction.
Del Monte Foods is a 50/50 joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Del Monte Pacific Ltd. Kapoor’s appointment comes as the company seeks to strengthen its presence in both the B2B and B2C sectors. Harjeet Kohli, Joint Managing Director of Bharti Enterprises, emphasized that Kapoor will play a crucial role in amplifying focus on these areas and guiding the company’s long-term strategic initiatives.
Kapoor succeeds former CEO Mahesh Kanchan, and he will lead the senior leadership team at Del Monte Foods, overseeing operations and driving the company’s strategic growth.
Del Monte Foods, well-known for its juice drinks, olive oil, pasta, mayonnaise, ketchup, and a variety of dried and canned fruits, has been a key player in India’s processed food market. The company was initially formed as FieldFresh Foods, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and global investment group E.L. Rothschild in 2004. This venture focused on the production and export of fresh vegetables and fruits. In 2007, Del Monte Pacific Ltd., listed on the Singapore stock exchange, acquired a 40.1% stake in FieldFresh Foods for $20.8 million, further solidifying its presence in the Indian market.
In 2021, the company was renamed Del Monte Foods Pvt. Ltd., reflecting a more focused approach towards branded processed foods and retail businesses. Today, nearly half of Del Monte’s business in India comes from the retail segment, with the B2B or institutional segment accounting for the remainder.
As Kapoor takes the helm, Del Monte Foods aims to build on its legacy and further its mission of providing high-quality, natural food products to consumers across India.
