Delhiites’ love for ice cream has reached new heights this summer, with the city topping the list of online ice cream orders at 27%. In response to this growing demand, a three-day Ice Cream Museum and Park was curated at Delhi’s Republic of Zoofari, offering visitors a delightful escape with jumbo ice cream installations and a variety of treats.
“Summers and ice cream are a match made in heaven. This experience took me back to my childhood,” said Akanksha Mittal, host and curator of the theme park.
The event featured fun ice cream-themed games that had children giggling with joy and adults snapping Instagram-worthy pictures against colourful backdrops. Visitors sampled various ice creams in cups and cones, making it a memorable outing for all ages.
With soaring temperatures and severe heat waves, ice cream has become a summer essential in most Delhi households. An online grocery platform reported a 16% increase in ice cream demand compared to last year. Another platform noted a 43% year-on-year growth in ice cream sales units in April, with a 20% rise in the number of customers buying ice cream tubs and family packs.
Vanilla, chocolate, and mango remain the most popular ice cream flavours, according to data from e-tailers. There’s also a growing demand for vegan and guilt-free ice cream options. “We’ve seen a 70% increase in orders for vegan and healthier ice creams,” said Srikant Sree Ram, director of Amazon Fresh India.
However, Gaurav Wadhwa, founder and co-owner of a chain of French patisseries and European cafes, noted that while there’s a demand for sugar-free gelatos and ice creams, it remains limited due to concerns over the side effects of sugar substitutes.
This summer has seen a significant surge in ice cream demand on various platforms. The ice cream sector witnessed remarkable growth in the ice cream category, reflecting a 43% year-on-year increase in units sold. Delhi emerged as the top consumer of ice creams, followed closely by Mumbai and Bengaluru,” said Srikant Sree Ram of Amazon Fresh India.
