In response to concerns over domestic sugar production due to weak monsoon conditions, the Indian government has extended export restrictions on all varieties of sugar, which include raw, white, refined, and organic sugar, beyond October 31. Although sugar has been on the restricted list until the end of October, the food ministry has been permitting exports in limited quantities depending on availability.
However, it’s important to note that these export restrictions will not apply to sugar being shipped to the European Union and the United States, as these shipments fall under CXL (Cotonou Agreement on Sugar) and tariff rate quota (TRQ) concessions, allowing a specified amount of sugar to be exported to these regions at reduced tariffs.
Non-Basmati Rice Export Approval
Additionally, India has granted permission for the export of 10,34,800 metric tonnes of non-basmati white rice to seven different countries, which include Nepal, Cameroon, and Malaysia. This export is made possible through the National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL), as announced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)
