An amazing news from the state of Gujarat whereby in Kutch -a district in the state around 150 growers are cultivating and producing the vitamin-rich Dragon fruit. The fruit is being cultivated on approximately 300-350 hectors of land.
Other fruits are easier to grow but cultivating and growing Dragon fruit is not easy in India, its tough time to nurse the fruit on tress. Dragon fruit is largely grown in South America, China and Vietnam. To get a great yield, a new technique is used where the fruits are grown in cement rings. This method of cultivation was initially started at Ashapura farms near Bhuj. A Dragon fruit grower named Haresh Thakkar, started cultivating dragon fruit in 2014-2015, having learned the innovative technique from Chinese and Vietnamese growers.
Seeing the success of Thakkar, other farmers in the region got inspired from him too and followed his style of cultivation. A large number of farmers in Bhuj, Gandhidham and Mandvi areas are now cultivating Dragon fruit and getting good returns for this foreign fruit.
