On the occasion of National Fish Farmer’s Day, which will be observed across the nation on Monday, July 10, the government announced on Sunday that Gujarat tops the country in marine fish production, with an annual average of 8.50 lakh metric tons produced over the last four years. A series of events will be held on July 10 and 11 in Veraval, Porbandar, Jafrabad, Mangrol, and Okha to commemorate the occasion, according to an official release.
Gujarat leads India in marine fish output and ranks seventh in total fish production, according to data made accessible by the government. In the previous four years, Gujarat’s average fish output has been around 8.5 lakh tons per year, according to the statement. “Provisional marine fish production for 2022-23 is likely to be 6,97,151 metric tons, while inland fish production is likely to be 2,07,078 metric tons,” the statement continued. Thus, Gujarat’s total fish production in 2022-23 is expected to be about 9,04,229 metric tons.”
Currently, the country’s fish exports number 13,69,264 metric tons, with Gujarat, accounting for 16.9% of total fish amount exports, or 2,32,619 metric tons, according to the statement. The government announced that the average yearly income of a fishing family in Gujarat has climbed from Rs. 6.56 lakhs to Rs. 10.89 lakhs in the last five years. “The annual income of a family engaged in fishing activities was Rs. 6.56 lakhs in 2018, Rs. 6.80 lakhs in 2019, Rs. 7.39 lakhs in 2020, Rs. 8.51 lakhs in 2021, and Rs. 10.89 lakhs in 2022,” according to the statement.
