Haldiram’s suffered a Ransomware attack on its servers by hackers who encrypted all their files, data, applications, and systems and demanded a ransom of $7, 50,000 for getting access to their data.
While a complaint was given to the cyber cell in the matter on July 17 this year, an FIR has been lodged in the case on October 14. This is the second recent complaint of delay in lodging of FIR by the cyber cell.
It is evident that the accused persons unauthorized entered the servers with the intent to commit the offense of theft and extortion, thereby committing the offense of criminal trespass. The hackers have not only stolen the data (including but not limited to financial, HR, sales/purchase and other data/information) from the servers but have also contacted the complainant through certain servers to illegally extort money from the company to provide it access to its own data/information and to delete the data stolen from the complainants’ servers/systems.
The hackers left a message on all affected servers using the same IP addresses as mentioned above declaring that it was a “Ransomware attack” on the company and that all their files, data, applications, and systems had been encrypted.
They threatened the company to give a ransom of USD 7, 50,000 to them to decrypt the servers of the company including all its files, data, applications, systems, etc. and delete the stolen data from the systems of the accused.
The Cyber police said that while a complaint was given to the cyber cell in July itself, an FIR was lodged two months later and now they have restored their data internally.
Haldiram had hired a private analyst to analyze the issue and the police received the data from official channels in the first week of October after which FIR was lodged.
