Hangyo Ice Creams Ramps Up Production to Meet Soaring Demand Across Southern India

Southern India’s beloved dairy brand Hangyo Ice Creams Pvt. Ltd. is scaling up its production capabilities in response to surging demand across Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa, signaling a bold new phase of growth for the regional powerhouse.

With a current production capacity of 1.25 lakh litres per day and an annual turnover of ₹300 crore, Hangyo is reinforcing its market leadership through strategic expansion, product innovation, and deeper distribution in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Founded by Dinesh Pai in 1989 under Srikrishna Milks Pvt. Ltd., Hangyo’s journey began as a private-sector dairy initiative—the first of its kind in Karnataka. The company quickly differentiated itself through a direct farmer procurement model and regional processing plants. In 1997, a business trip to Australia sparked a turning point: Pai and his brother Pradeep Pai introduced softee ice creams to Mangaluru, a novelty that took the city by storm. The popularity of the product led to the creation of Hangyo Softees, a regional franchise model that now spans 50+ outlets.

To cater to the growing demand for hard ice creams, the company initially added a 1,000-litre daily production unit in Heroor, followed by two major expansions. In 2012, Hangyo built a modern greenfield plant in Kirwatti with a capacity of 20,000 litres per day, equipped with state-of-the-art machinery sourced from China. This facility now supports a wide portfolio of SKUs, including cups, sticks, candies, family packs, and novelties.

“Our goal has always been to bring world-class dairy and ice cream products to Indian households, while staying true to our roots and farmer-first philosophy,” said Dinesh Pai, Executive Chairman, who continues to guide the company with hands-on leadership and a global outlook. Pai has represented the brand at prestigious international events such as ANUGA in Germany and the World Ice Cream Expo in Italy, absorbing global best practices and adapting them to Indian tastes.

With a robust distribution network of over 40,000 retail outlets and 450+ distributors, Hangyo has carved out a strong presence across seven states: Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Goa. Its product lines have also expanded beyond ice cream to include milk, curd, paneer, and other value-added dairy products.

Looking ahead, Hangyo is investing further in R&D, cold chain logistics, and market penetration to support continued growth. The brand’s focus on regional relevance, supply chain efficiency, and product quality positions it as one of India’s Top 15 ice cream brands, with ambitions to climb higher.

As Indian consumers shift towards premium, locally-rooted, and innovative frozen treats, Hangyo’s commitment to excellence and its legacy of trust make it well-positioned to lead the next chapter of growth in the country’s dynamic frozen dessert market.
