The Hershey Company is expanding its Jolly Rancher portfolio with the launch of Jolly Rancher Heat Wave Gummies, a new product line designed to capitalize on the growing popularity of gummy candies and sweet-and-spicy (“swicy”) flavour trends among younger consumers.
The new range features five fruit flavours—mango, pineapple, watermelon, lime and Citrus Punch—each finished with a mild chilli-inspired coating intended to add warmth without overpowering the underlying sweetness. The gummies are scheduled for a nationwide rollout in the United States in late February.
The move reflects Hershey’s broader strategy to reposition the 77-year-old Jolly Rancher brand beyond its traditional hard-candy roots. In recent years, the company has introduced the brand into adjacent formats such as gummies, ropes and freeze-dried confections, helping drive strong growth. Jolly Rancher generated approximately $400 million in sales in 2024, marking a 25% year-on-year increase, according to company data.
Industry trends support the expansion. Gummies continue to attract a broad demographic—from millennials drawn by nostalgia to Gen Z consumers who favour colourful, playful textures. At the same time, consumer appetite for sweet-and-spicy flavour combinations has surged, with surveys indicating a strong willingness among shoppers to experiment with “swicy” products across snacks and beverages.
Company executives say the new Heat Wave Gummies are intended to deliver a more adventurous flavour experience while strengthening the brand’s relevance with younger audiences. The launch also positions Hershey to compete more aggressively in the fast-growing gummy confectionery segment, where innovation in texture and flavour fusion is increasingly shaping purchasing decisions.
