Ice cream melts but spirits high, says a renowned ice cream manufacturer Priti Narsaria, Rollick Ice cream from Ranchi, Jharkhand. On contacting about the well-being of the family, she replied that business is down by 90 percent though there are sales yet the impulse buying of cones or cup ice cream has gone drastically down.
“The manner in which the sales gained momentum in February and March, we assumed a higher sales and a much better business in progressive months of summer this year. Like-wise we expedited our production and stocked the ice cream only to face another lockdown of the second wave of the crisis. Our cold store is packed with storage of the ice cream without any demand. Our own parlours are suffering due to closure, our distributors and retailers refuse to stock saying there is no one to buy them”, said Priti sadly.
“We had planned new flavours, expansions in outlets but seeing the circumstances, we have held back all our business outlines. After April 22, we have seen a very sharp drop in sales, even online sales have not helped us much. Parties and functions are postponed, that is also another drawback in the fall of demand”.
“We cannot change people’s mindset as they fear throat infection and people also fear to come road for daily purchase. It’s not that we are not doing any sales. Take away yes but impulse buying it’s a NO”, she said.
