The Karnataka state government has been procuring about 5,000 tons of agri-produce every day from farmers from different districts of the state. This clearly indicates there is no shortage of fruits and vegetables in towns and cities, stated Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan.
These essential needs are being sold at Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Societies (HOPCOMs) and APMC markets to ensure balanced supply of them to consumers during the lockdown.
Narayan, leads a ministerial team on supply chain management, presided a meeting of ministers with other authorities, and said that all perishable vegetables and fruits are being procured on day-to-day basis.
All APMC markets and other mini/super markets have been kept open during the day and no markets are allowed to shut during the lockdown period. Food processing industries have procured about 1,200 ton of tomatoes and likewise vegetables and fruits for processing.
