Indonesia’s F&B Unicorn Kopi Kenangan Debuts in India with Flagship Kenangan Coffee Outlet in Delhi

Kopi Kenangan, Southeast Asia’s first food and beverage unicorn and one of the fastest-growing coffee chains in the region, has officially launched its India operations with the opening of its flagship Kenangan Coffee outlet at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden, Delhi.

Backed by a high-profile roster of investors including Peak XV Partners, Sequoia Capital, Serena Ventures (founded by Serena Williams), and B Capital by Eduardo Saverin (co-founder of Meta), this move marks a major milestone for the brand as it enters one of the world’s most vibrant and fast-evolving coffee markets.

Brewing Opportunity in India’s Expanding Café Scene

India’s coffee consumption has surged in recent years, crossing over one million 60-kg bags in 2023–2024, driven by a growing young population, rapid urbanization, and rising disposable incomes. The brand’s India foray taps into this expanding demand for quality coffee experiences, especially those with a health-forward edge.

Kenangan Coffee brings a distinctive Indonesian flavor profile to Indian consumers through its signature use of Gula Aren — a traditional palm sugar known for its rich nutrient content and lower glycemic index than refined sugars. This aligns with evolving consumer preferences for wellness-focused indulgences.

“India is a thrilling new chapter for us,” said Edward Tirtanata, Co-founder and Group CEO of Kenangan Brands. “With a youthful population and a growing love for coffee culture, we see India as a natural fit for Kenangan Coffee. We are here to blend premium quality with memorable experiences tailored to local tastes.”

Local Meets Global: Custom Menu and Expansion Plans

Kenangan Coffee’s India menu features over 35 beverages and 20 food items, blending Indonesian and Indian ingredients to create a cross-cultural coffee experience. The company plans to open over 10 stores across India by the end of 2025, supported by a team of more than 120 employees spanning operations, sourcing, and corporate functions.

Sanjay Mohta, Vice President and General Manager – India, said, “We aim to bring Indonesian craftsmanship to Indian coffee lovers while integrating local flavors that resonate with regional palates. Our focus is on building a community-centric brand rooted in quality and innovation.”

As part of its long-term India strategy, Kenangan Coffee also intends to source select ingredients from local Indian coffee growers, creating a blend that highlights the best of both nations. The brand is also committed to job creation through local hiring and partnerships.

Founded in 2017, Kopi Kenangan has grown to more than 1,000 outlets across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. The India entry marks a significant step in its global expansion strategy.
