ISM 2020: Expert lectures, special events, live sweet manufacturing and guided tours

In its anniversary year, the leading global trade fair for sweets and snacks covers all facets of the industry with its diversified themes.

In just a few weeks it is finally time again: the international sweets and snacks industry will meet up in Cologne at ISM from 2 to 5 February 2020. To commemorate its 50th anniversary the leading global trade fair for sweets and snacks has a diversified event programme in store. As the leading industry meeting point, the focus lies on recognising new issues and challenges and presenting initial solutions. The highlights of the trade fair include expert lectures, special events, live sweet manufacturing, guided tours and award ceremonies.

New Product Showcase
The New Product Showcase has established itself at ISM as an appealing attraction and as the key location for innovations. The trade visitors can admire new products that have been developed since ISM 2019 in the scope of the special exhibition, the New Product Showcase, presented in more than 150 display windows in Hall 2.2. In addition, the three most innovative products of ISM 2020 that were distinguished during the ISM Night will be presented here. Not only the contents, also the packaging play an important role: The ISM Packaging Award powered by ProSweets Cologne will be awarded for the most innovative form of packaging together with the prize for the top 3 innovations of the New Product Showcase.

Trend Court@ISM
The Trend Court@ISM in Hall 5.2. is dedicated to the theme trends within the sweets industry. Different accents will be set in the three sections. New product trends and developments within the industry will be presented on a special area under the focus “Sweet Trends presented by Innova Market Insights”. Beyond this, Innova Market Insights will be organising trend presentations three times a day in the scope of the Expert Stage. The Expert Stage is additionally the place for an exchange of knowledge and information. Key industry themes will be discussed every day from Sunday to Wednesday.

What’s more, in the Trend Court@ISM, around 20 companies that were founded no longer than five years ago, will present their innovations in the Start-up Area in Hall 5.2. The entire start-up area is located in the Trend Section of Hall 5.2 and is the initial port-of-call for innovations. All of the start-ups additionally have the opportunity to present themselves on the Expert Stage in the scope of a start-up pitch. These will take place on the Expert Stage in Hall 5.2 at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.

ISM Award
This year the ISM Award is being conferred for the seventh time. The winner will be honoured for outstanding services to the sweets and snacks industry at the gala evening on 2 February 2020. Last year Prof. Dr. Hermann Bühlbecker, sole owner of the Lambertz Group, received the award.

ISM 1971 special event – 50 Sweet Years
The special event gives insights into the early days of ISM. In the scope of several stands designed in the style of the 70s, as well as a small exhibition with photos and many historical ISM memories in the living room style of the 70s, the trade visitors will learn how the leading global trade fair for sweets and snacks got started. It is possible to take home a souvenir photo taken in the form of a polaroid as a recollection of the 1970s.

Sweet Kitchen@ISM
Interesting live shows on the theme sweets will be held for the second time on the Sweet Kitchen@ISM show stage in Hall 3.1. Daniela Sepp, founder of the manufacturing company Principessa’s, will present how cookies and cupcakes are made in the show baking event. The lady from Munich, who founded the Principessa’s manufacturing company in 2011, specialises in free-from and vegan culinary delights. In a candy show of the internationally famous Polish CiuCiu sweet manufacturing company, the founder Florian Belgard will demonstrate close-up the production steps of manufacturing sweets – from boiling the sugar, to the dyeing process, through to the aromatisation and sampling of the finished product. He will also provide valuable information on the production, history and processing of sugar.

Aiga Corinna Müller, Maître Chocolatier of the Chocolate Museum has a member of the Chocolate Museum’s team for many years. This year at ISM, she will present the world of chocolate in the confectionery section to the trade visitors in the scope of a live show on the Sweet Kitchen@ISM. Among others she will explain how bitter bean is turned into a mouth-watering experience.

Furthermore, in a lecture entitled “Raise the bar”, Tony’s Chocolonely will provide insights into the chocolate world of the Dutch sweet manufacturers.

All of the live sweet production sessions are being held daily at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. from Sunday to Tuesday and at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 13:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Guided Tours
ISM offers guided tours on various themes, which last one and a half hours. The focus of the tours lies on product innovations, sensory samples and the professional exchange. ISM accompanies the tours, giving in-depth insights into these trend themes. The visitors can gain an overview of the industry’s current themes during the Guided Tours. The following tours are taking place at different times during the days of the trade fair.
