Lotte India, a renowned chocolate manufacturer and supplier, has announced a significant expansion of its production capabilities at its factory in Tamil Nadu, backed by a substantial investment of Rs 185 crore. The expansion project, situated on a sprawling 85,562 sq ft of land in Nemam, near Tamil Nadu’s capital, Chennai, is set to bring about substantial growth in the company’s Choco Pie product line.
In a press release, the company expressed its enthusiasm about the investment’s potential impact on its position in the Indian confectionery market, stating, “The investment will play a key role in strengthening LOTTE India’s strong leadership in the Indian confectionery market.”
One of the most significant aspects of this expansion is the creation of job opportunities in the region, with an estimated 200 new jobs set to be generated by the facility. This development is expected to provide a boost to the local economy and job market.
Milan Wahl, the Managing Director of Lotte India, shared his excitement about the company’s continued growth in India, saying, “This expansion builds on LOTTE India’s rich history in India and comes at an exciting time for our overall investment and growth in the country.”
The expansion has more than doubled the facility’s size, increasing it from 85,562 sq ft to a substantial 5,16,398 sq ft, making it one of the largest factories operated by Lotte India. Wahl emphasized the company’s commitment to maintaining high safety and hygiene standards, with a remarkable 99 percent retention rate at the factory.
With the augmented production capacity, the factory is now capable of producing 1,420 tonnes of confectionery products per month. This significant increase in production capacity positions Lotte India to meet the growing demand for its products in the domestic market while also creating potential opportunities for future exports.
In addition to its expanded facility in Nemam, Lotte India operates two state-of-the-art Choco Pie manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Rohtak (Haryana). Furthermore, the company has its confectionery manufacturing unit in Nellikuppam, near Puducherry, and outsources manufacturing to seven other units located across the country.
This expansion marks a significant milestone for Lotte India and underscores the company’s commitment to growth, job creation, and quality in the Indian confectionery industry.
