McD’s India and Sanjeev Kapoor Team Up Again for High-Protein Burger Innovation

McDonald’s India (West & South) has reunited with celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor to launch its latest innovation — the ‘Protein Plus Slice’ — as part of its new Protein Plus Range. The move strengthens the QSR giant’s commitment to providing nutritionally enhanced yet flavorful menu options.

The collaboration was unveiled through a quirky brand film developed by DDB Mudra, where Kapoor plays a McDonald’s crew member interacting with a fitness-focused customer and his younger brother. The film highlights how the new Protein Plus Slice allows customers to personalize their protein intake — one slice adds 5 grams of vegetarian, plant-based protein, co-developed with the CSIR – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI).

The slice can be added in multiples, offering flexibility to health-conscious consumers without sacrificing McDonald’s signature taste.

Akshay Jatia, CEO of Westlife Foodworld (which operates McDonald’s in West and South India), said, “The Protein Plus Range is a big leap in empowering customers with nutritional customization. It’s part of our ‘Real Food, Real Good’ approach, where we combine flavor, food science, and the richness of local ingredients.”

This is McDonald’s second collaboration with CFTRI, following the successful Multi-Millet Bun launch, which also featured Chef Kapoor. Speaking on the new initiative, Kapoor said, “McDonald’s continues to innovate in the right direction. The Protein Plus Slice is a perfect blend of nutrition and taste — a true step forward in personalized nutrition.”

Rahul Mathew, Chief Creative Officer at DDB India, added, “Whether you’re compensating for missed nutrients or fuelling a workout, the new Protein Plus Slices ensure McDonald’s is for everyone.”

The Protein Plus Range is now available across McDonald’s restaurants in West and South India, and can also be ordered via the McDelivery App and Swiggy. The campaign closes with Chef Kapoor declaring, “That’s My McDonald’s,” reaffirming the brand’s intent to blend innovation, taste, and health in every bite.
