MEDIA STATEMENT FOR PRESS RELEASE FROM  INDIAN ICE CREAM MANUFACTURER’S ASSOCIATION (IICMA) ON FALSE MESSAGES AND RUMOURS WITH REGARD TO COVID-19

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 better known as Coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it as pandemic state. People are strictly advised to refrain from having personal contacts and to maintain safe distance while meeting people. Proper sanitization and wearing of protective mask is advised while travelling.

The citizens of nations are recommended to wash all fruits and vegetables before consumption in lieu of the outspread of the virus. Many fraudulent messages and rumours are also being circulated on all social media and other communication networks related to the spread of Coronavirus through ice creams and other frozen food items.

To negate the fake messages, Indian Ice Cream Manufacturer’s Association (IICMA) testifies that Ice creams and other frozen foods are NOT the carriers of the said virus. IICMA would like to reassure and inform everyone that Ice creams DO NOT carry nor spread Coronavirus as the virus cannot survive the temperature below minus. In fact, no food items can spread the disease either because they are cooked on high temperatures or frozen below minus degree. To avoid the spread of coronavirus and to stay safe, we all need to keep maximum hygiene, frequently wash our hands, avoid touching ENT i.e. Eyes, Nose and Throat and masking face while outside or traveling.

IICMA requests everyone to join the quest and fight against all misinformation regarding food items to ensure people have correct facts and information about Coronavirus so that they can protect themselves and their families and stay SAFE.
