Milk Prices Rise Again: Amul and Parag Follow Mother Dairy with ₹2/Litre Hike

Consumers will now have to pay more for milk, as leading dairy brands Amul and Parag Milk Foods have increased prices by ₹2 per litre, effective May 1. The move comes close on the heels of Mother Dairy’s price hike earlier this week, amid escalating procurement and input costs.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets milk under the Amul brand, said the hike applies to all fresh pouch milk variants. This is Amul’s first price revision since June 2024. “Despite offering extra volume in packs and even reducing prices in January 2025, the current revision has become necessary to support our 36 lakh milk producers facing rising production costs,” GCMMF stated. The cooperative added that nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers goes directly to dairy farmers.

Parag Milk Foods, which markets milk under the Gowardhan brand, also implemented a ₹2 per litre price hike. Ajay Singh Barodia, President – Sales at Parag Milk Foods, said, “This adjustment helps us support our dairy farmers while continuing to deliver pure and fresh milk to our consumers.”

Earlier in the week, Mother Dairy raised milk prices by ₹1–2 per litre across all markets, citing a ₹4–5 per litre surge in procurement costs caused by heatwave conditions and an early onset of summer.

The price hikes across major brands are expected to put additional pressure on household budgets, even as companies maintain that the increases are vital for sustaining farmer incomes and ensuring supply continuity.
