Mizoram Signs NDDB Pact to Boost Milk Production Under White Revolution 2.0

The Mizoram Milk Producers Cooperative Union Limited (MULCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to strengthen milk production, processing, and the cooperative dairy ecosystem in the State.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma and Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata. The agreement aims to drive structured interventions in dairy development and improve livelihoods for livestock farmers across the State.

NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah said a systematic and technology-driven approach could help Mizoram achieve significant gains in milk production and value addition. As part of the collaboration, NDDB will prepare a Comprehensive Dairy Development Plan for Mizoram in line with the Ministry of Cooperation’s flagship White Revolution 2.0 programme.

Under the agreement, NDDB will provide technical support across breeding, feed, animal health, processing, and capacity building, while MULCO will implement the interventions at the ground level.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma said the partnership would enhance milk production and create income-generation opportunities for livestock farmers. He noted that Mizoram has favourable land resources and a strong tradition of animal husbandry, which can be better leveraged through modern technology and improved practices. He also stressed the need for a dedicated Project Monitoring Unit to ensure effective implementation of the plan.

Cooperation Minister Vanlalruata expressed confidence that NDDB’s involvement—given its extensive experience across India—would strengthen the cooperative movement in Mizoram and deliver tangible benefits to farmers.

According to the Bureau of Animal Husbandry & Statistics (BAHS), Mizoram recorded the lowest daily milk production in the Northeast during 2024–25 at 64.4 thousand kilograms per day, underscoring the need for targeted interventions in the dairy sector.
