Mother Dairy has set in plans to inject a staggering Rs. 750 crores into establishing two cutting-edge dairy, fruit, and vegetable processing plants. This ambitious initiative aims to amplify the company’s production capabilities and fortify its presence across key regions.
According to MD Manish Bandlish of Mother Dairy Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd, the lion’s share of this investment, totalling Rs. 525 crores, will be directed towards erecting a state-of-the-art dairy facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This flagship venture is slated to possess a robust processing capacity of 6 lakh litres of milk daily, expandable to a staggering 10 lakh litres per day, catering primarily to the central and southern markets.
Also, Mother Dairy intends to inaugurate a pioneering fruit processing plant in Karnataka under its renowned Safal brand, with an investment exceeding Rs. 125 crores. Both ventures are anticipated to reach completion within a two-year timeframe.
Besides, the company is committing approximately Rs. 100 crores towards enhancing its current facilities. With nine company-owned processing plants for dairy and significant partnerships with third-party facilities, Mother Dairy boasts a total milk processing capacity exceeding 50 lakh litres per day.
Mother Dairy’s extensive portfolio encompasses a diverse range of products, including milk, ice cream, paneer, and ghee under the flagship ‘Mother Dairy’ brand, as well as edible oils marketed under the ‘Dhara’ brand. Its subsidiary, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has been pivotal in its evolution since its inception in 1974 under the ‘Operation Flood’ initiative.
Despite facing challenges such as a subdued summer season and deflation in the edible oil sector, Mother Dairy anticipates a moderate growth rate of 7-8% in volume terms for the fiscal year, signalling resilience amidst adversities.
With a strong foothold in Delhi-NCR, boasting numerous milk booths and Safal retail outlets, Mother Dairy continues to redefine standards in the dairy industry, selling over 35 lakh litres of fresh milk daily in the region.
