National Wheat Seminar in Chandigarh to Spotlight Climate Challenges, Innovation, and Consumption Trends

Industry leaders, researchers, processors, and policymakers will convene in Chandigarh this week for a national seminar aimed at shaping the future of India’s wheat sector amid rising climate challenges and changing consumer preferences.

Organized by the Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS) in collaboration with the Roller Flour Millers Association of Punjab (RFMAP), the two-day event titled “Wheat in Transformation: Preparing for Climate, Quality and Consumption” will be held on November 7–8 at the Hyatt Regency, Chandigarh.

The forum will bring together the full wheat value chain — including farmers, wheat breeders, millers, bakers, food processors, climate scientists, geospatial experts, and policymakers — to deliberate on climate resilience, quality enhancement, global trade opportunities, technology adoption, and shifting consumption patterns.

“This seminar provides a unique opportunity for the wheat fraternity to come together and address future challenges through innovation, research, and collaboration,” said Ajay Goyal, Chairman, WPPS. “Our focus is on preparing the sector for climate variability, quality improvement, and evolving consumption trends.”

Five technical sessions will cover key themes, including AI-driven milling and processing technology, the development of climate-resilient wheat varieties, industry requirements, innovative ingredients, and post-harvest management and quality assurance.

Experts from major organizations, including ITC Ltd., Nestlé, Grupo Bimbo, Louis Dreyfus Company, Megastar Foods, CSIR–CFTRI, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), and Skymet Weather Services, will lead discussions on technological advances, sustainability, and research-driven solutions.

“Hosting this event in Chandigarh — the heart of India’s wheat belt — underscores Punjab’s critical role in shaping the country’s wheat and food processing sector,” said Ajay Jindal, President, RFMAP. “This platform aims to bridge the gap between science and industry and strengthen future readiness.”

The event is expected to foster collaboration, research partnerships, and policy dialogue as the wheat ecosystem prepares for a rapidly evolving agricultural and consumer landscape.
