A GIS-enabled android application called Dairy Surveyor has been developed by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), which will offer a robust locational database that can be used by policymakers to formulate or review effective policies and programmes related to the dairy sector.
According to Varsha Joshi, joint secretary (cattle and dairy development), department of animal husbandry and dairying (Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying) GOI and interim chairman of NDDB the app can capture ‘real-time’ information to strengthen decision-making. It is capable of geotagging and mapping infrastructure, real-time tracking of field projects, monitoring milk procurement and sale-related activities.
“It will bring in transparency and also help in saving time, effort, and cost,” said Joshi.
