National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) which has its headquarters in Anand, Gujarat has plans to construct and manage three new dairy plants in Jharkhand on a turn-key project basis.
The Jharkhand government has requested NDDB to build these dairies at Sarath (Deoghar), Sahebganj, and Palamu.
Also, plans are underway to make dairy plant at Hotwar and two dairy plants of 50,000 liters per day (TLPD) capacity at Jamshedpur and Giridih is also being discussed with the Jharkhand government. The capacity of these two plants will be expandable to 100 TLPD.
The plants at Sarath, Sahebganj, and Palamu, which will have a capacity of 50 TLPD expandable to 100 TLPD, will be constructed at the cost of Rs. 90 crore by March, June, and September in 2021.
The addition of these new dairy plants will help the total milk handling and processing capacity of Jharkhand Milk Federation to be around 5 lakh liters per day (LLPD) by the year 2024.
Presently, the JMF has 4 dairy plants at Latehar, Deoghar, Ranchi, and Koderma having a capacity of 140 TLPD and one cattle feed plant at Hotwar, Ranchi.
NDDB took over the management of JMF from April 1, 2014. JMF operates in 15 districts of Jharkhand including Ranchi, Bokaro, Chatra, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Garhwa, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Khunti, Hazaribag, Koderma, Palamau, Latehar, and Godda.
In the current year of 2019-20, the annual average milk procurement from these 15 districts continued with about 117.52 thousand kg per day milk and it marketed around 102.99 TLPD. It will continue to manage JMF as Jharkhand cabinet has recently approved the extension of MoU between NDDB and JMF till March 31, 2024.
