Patanjali Foods Ltd. is set to establish an oil palm mill in Mizoram, a move aimed at strengthening India’s edible oil retail sector. The mill, which will be located in Liapha, Lawngtlai district, is expected to be completed within a year, according to an official statement.
Two senior executives from Patanjali Foods met with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma in Aizawl to discuss the project. The company plans to source oil palm from farmers in Serchhip, Lunglei, Lawngtlai, and Siaha districts, providing a significant boost to the region’s agricultural economy.
During the discussions, the Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by oil palm cultivators in the southern districts and outlined the state government’s plans to expand oil palm farming. In response, Patanjali Foods officials assured their commitment to supporting farmers and promoting increased cultivation in the region.
The establishment of this mill aligns with India’s broader push for self-sufficiency in edible oil production, reducing dependence on imports while creating new economic opportunities for local farmers.
