PLISFPI To Support Creation of Global Food Manufacturing Champions

In a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Prahlad Singh Patel stated that the Union Cabinet approved the Central Sector Scheme, “Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI),” with an outlay of Rs. 10,900 crores, to support the development of international food manufacturing champions commensurate with India’s natural resource endowment and support Indian brands of food with an outlay of Rs.10,900 crore.

The growth of processing capacity and job creation would be made possible by the scheme’s adoption. The initial part of the program encourages the production of four primary food product categories, including ready-to-eat (RTC/RTE) dishes made from millet, processed fruits and vegetables, seafood, and mozzarella cheese.

The production of innovative/organic goods by small and medium-sized businesses, such as free-range eggs, poultry meat, and egg products, is the subject of the second component.

The third element refers to assistance with branding and international marketing to encourage the establishment of powerful Indian companies. With an investment of 800 crores, one additional component for millet-based goods would be introduced in 2022–2023.

The program is not restricted to any one State or area. A single application for millet-based goods from Sanna Enterprises’ North Eastern Area was received and chosen.
