PM Modi to Inaugurate World Food India 2025, Seeks Global Investments in Processing Sector

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fourth edition of World Food India on September 25 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, as the government looks to attract large-scale investments in the country’s food processing sector and establish India as a global hub for food innovation.

The mega event will see participation from Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrishev, along with Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Chirag Paswan, and Ravneet Singh Bittu. Spanning over 100,000 square meters, the event will bring together more than 1,700 exhibitors from 21 countries, as well as 21 Indian states and union territories. New Zealand and Saudi Arabia will be partner countries, while Japan, Russia, the UAE, and Vietnam will serve as focus nations.

“World Food India is not merely a trade show, but a transformative platform to position India as a hub for food innovation, investment, and sustainability,” said Union Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan.

The government anticipates significant investment commitments this year, building on earlier editions—2023 saw MoUs worth ₹33,000 crore, while 2024 focused on technology transfer partnerships. Paswan emphasized that India, despite being among the top five producers of key crops, lags in processing levels, leading to substantial post-harvest losses.

To counter widespread misconceptions about processed foods, the ministry has released a booklet, Frequently Asked Questions on Different Concepts of Food Processing, prepared in consultation with industry stakeholders. The document aims to provide science-based information and dispel myths linking processed foods solely to weight gain and health risks.

With strong international participation and a focus on innovation-led investment, World Food India 2025 is expected to be the largest gathering of stakeholders in the sector, providing a decisive boost to India’s ambition of becoming a global food processing powerhouse.
