On New Year’s Eve, senior industry executives reported an unprecedented surge in orders for food delivery and quick-commerce platforms such as Zomato, Blinkit, Swiggy Food, and Instamart.
Executives shared real-time updates on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to keep the public informed about the order trends for the evening. Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, revealed that the platform delivered nearly as many orders on New Year’s Eve 2023 as it did on the combined New Year’s Eves from 2015 to 2020.
Albinder Dhindsa, co-founder and CEO of Blinkit, stated that the platform logged its highest-ever orders in a single day and recorded the highest orders per minute. Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor announced that New Year’s Eve 2024 set new records for both Swiggy Food and Instamart, surpassing their previous highs. Orders per minute on Swiggy Instamart reached the highest level seen so far, surpassing the previous high during the World Cup Finals by 1.6 times.
