Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will hire Dr. Rupinder Singh Sodhi, the former MD of AMUL, who has been credited with helping Amul become India’s top milk brand, in an effort to grow its grocery division, according to a source.
The former AMUL MD would reportedly join Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL) to aid the Isha Ambani-led company’s expansion in India’s grocery market with a concentration on fruits and vegetables, according to the report. He will also serve as the brand’s leadership and guarantee a stronger presence among consumer brands.
The recruitment of top leadership at Reliance Retail has not been formally confirmed by the business. According to the article, Dr. Sodhi is yet to verify the development as well. It is anticipated that Sodhi’s experience with AMUL will be beneficial for business growth as RIL produces products to compete with Mother Diary and AMUL.
Dr. Sodhi went non-operational at GCMMF in January of this year after spending 41 years playing an important role in the development of AMUL. The development coincides with Reliance’s plans to launch a number of new items, such as those in the home and personal care markets, in order to increase its position throughout the Indian consumer retail industry. The firm recently announced plans to bring back the iconic Indian soft drink brand Campa Cola.
As a Senior Sales Executive, Dr. R.S. Sodhi joined GCMMF in 1982 after finishing his studies at the Institute of Rural Management in Anand. He has since played a significant role in the development of GCMMF and its flagship brand, Amul. Dr. R.S. Sodhi has spent his forty years with GCMMF serving in a variety of roles, including Senior Sales Executive, Group Product Manager, AGM (Marketing), General Manager of Marketing, Chief General Manager, etc. He held the role of Managing Director of GCMMF for more than twelve years until resigning in January of this year.
In 1980, he earned a BE in Agricultural Engineering before choosing to enroll in a PG Diploma program at the Institute of Rural Management in Anand.
Along with him, Dr. Sodhi brings immense experience from GCMMF to boost the grocery division of RIL.
