Singh to Inaugurate Livestock Conclave in Shillong on Jan 23, 2025

The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairy (DAHD), under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairy, is hosting a two-day conclave titled ‘Dialogue for Holistic Development of Livestock Sector in North East India’ in Shillong, Meghalaya, on January 23–24, 2025.

The event will be inaugurated by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), with Professor S P Singh Baghel and George Kurian, Ministers of State for FAHD and Panchayati Raj, attending as distinguished guests. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, alongside Ministers from Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development departments of the North East Region (NER), will also be present.

Key Highlights of the Conclave:

  1. Project Dedications and MOUs:
    • New projects will be launched for NER.
    • MOUs will be signed to boost investment in the livestock sector.
  2. Objectives:
    • Facilitate discussions on strategies for holistic livestock development in NER.
    • Address challenges, assess current status, and explore growth opportunities.
    • Promote value chain strengthening, technological interventions, and policy support.
    • Align initiatives with sustainable and inclusive practices under the ‘One Health’ approach.
  3. Government Initiatives:
    • The Government of India will highlight flagship schemes like:
      • Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF).
      • Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) under the National Livestock Mission (NLM).
      • Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM).
      • National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD).
  4. Participants:
    • Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary of DAHD, senior DAHD officers, and Principal Secretaries from NER States.
    • Key stakeholders including scientists, NGOs, entrepreneurs, and private players from the livestock and poultry industries.

This conclave is poised to serve as a platform for policy formulation, investment decisions, and knowledge sharing, paving the way for the sustainable and inclusive growth of livestock and poultry sectors in the North East.
