Food delivery major Swiggy has raised its platform fee to ₹15 in certain high-demand markets, marking its second hike within a month. The charge, which was revised from ₹12 to ₹14 in mid-August, has now gone up by another rupee.
The platform fee, a flat levy added to every order, was first introduced at ₹2 in April 2023 and has since been gradually increased as part of Swiggy’s push to strengthen unit economics. Rival Zomato on Tuesday also raised its platform fee from ₹10 to ₹12, excluding GST, ahead of the festive season.
Though relatively small compared to an average order value of ₹500–600, the levy is seen as a margin booster for food delivery platforms struggling with profitability.
Swiggy’s move comes against the backdrop of widening losses. The company’s net loss for the April–June quarter doubled year-on-year to ₹1,197 crore, largely due to increased investments in its quick-commerce arm, Instamart. Operating revenue rose 54% to ₹4,961 crore during the same period, while cash outflow stood at ₹1,053 crore.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Rapido’s “Ownly” service is intensifying competition by offering restaurants lower commission rates.
Swiggy has not officially commented on the latest fee hike.
