Unilever has joined forces with Perfect Day, a US-based animal-free dairy producer, to unveil a new lactose-free ice cream product. The innovative lactose-free chocolate ice cream is now available under Unilever’s renowned Breyers brand.
Breaking away from traditional animal-based dairy proteins, Unilever has integrated Perfect Day’s animal-free whey protein, synthesized through fermentation, into this delectable treat. This collaboration marks a significant stride towards providing consumers with sustainable and lactose-free alternatives in the ice cream market.
Available in a convenient 48-ounce tub format, the lactose-free chocolate ice cream will be stocked alongside Unilever’s existing Breyers range at major retailers across the United States, including Kroger, Walmart, Target, and H-E-B. Notably, aside from being lactose-free, the product boasts zero cholesterol, aligning with evolving consumer preferences for healthier options.
Lisa Vortsman, Chief Marketing Officer for Unilever’s ice cream business in North America, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “The introduction of Breyers Lactose-Free Chocolate with animal-free dairy is an exciting and innovative addition to Breyers’ growing better-for-you portfolio.”
