Global FMCG major Unilever is exploring the possibility of establishing a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, a move that could strengthen the city’s role in global agri-food supply chains, sustainability, and operations excellence, the Telangana government said.
The development follows a meeting between Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Willem Uijen, Chief Supply Chain and Operations Officer, Unilever, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos. During the interaction, the Chief Minister highlighted Hyderabad’s rapid emergence as a hub for global capability centres, particularly those supporting food, FMCG, and supply-chain-led businesses. Uijen indicated that Unilever would be keen to explore setting up a GCC in the city, according to an official release.
State IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu noted that Hyderabad already hosts GCCs of several global consumer and food companies, including McDonald’s, Heineken and Costco, reinforcing its credentials as a backend nerve centre for global food processing, sourcing and logistics operations.
Beyond Unilever, Telangana used the Davos platform to pitch itself as a partner for agriculture, food systems and climate-resilient growth. The state government said Google has expressed interest in collaborating with Telangana on agriculture and climate change solutions. In a meeting with Sanjay Gupta, President – APAC, Google, the Chief Minister outlined the state’s CURE–PURE–RARE framework, which integrates urban, peri-urban manufacturing and rural agriculture economies to drive balanced growth.
Gupta committed Google’s support in areas including agriculture technology, climate action, cybersecurity and startups, aligning with Telangana’s push to modernize farming systems while reducing environmental impact.
International cooperation in food, logistics and infrastructure also featured prominently. The UAE government has agreed to partner with Telangana in developing the proposed Bharat Future City near Hyderabad, a project expected to support advanced manufacturing, logistics and agri-linked industries. UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri discussed collaboration in large infrastructure projects and said the UAE would be happy to work with Telangana as part of its broader economic diversification agenda.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reiterated the state’s ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ vision, which aims to transform Telangana into a USD 3 trillion economy by 2047, with agriculture, food processing, logistics and climate-aligned manufacturing as key pillars. He added that the Peri-Urban Region Economy (PURE)—between Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Regional Ring Road (RRR)—is being developed as a hub for manufacturing and logistics, sectors closely linked to food supply chains.
Separately, while meeting global leaders across sectors, the delegation also engaged with Royal Philips, which showed interest in AI collaborations, and Saudi-based industrial group Expertise, which expressed interest in partnering with the Young India Skills University—a move that could strengthen skill development for agri-industry, food processing and allied manufacturing sectors.
The Telangana government said these discussions collectively signal growing global interest in the state as a future hub for agri-food innovation, sustainable supply chains and climate-driven economic growth.
