Hisar Dist of Haryana plans First Donkey Milk Dairy, a litre may cost upto Rs.7000

It’s common to hear people drinking Cow, Buffalo and Goat’s milk. Even Yak milk is consumed in mountainous regions. But, Donkey’s milk? Its something to be surprised about!!!

To everyone’s surprise, the first ever donkey’s milk dairy in India will be opened in Northern state of Haryana.

National Horse Research Centre (NHRC) is going to open this dairy in Hisar district of Haryana with initial 10 donkeys of “Halari breed” . This breed has been ordered from Gujarat. And breeding of these 10 donkeys will be done to increase the number of them.

To start this unheard-of dairy, help is being taken from scientists of Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes (CIRB) National Research Centre on Equines (NRCE) to develop the entire farm with facilities. 

The research on donkey’s milk was started by ex-Director of NRCE Dr. B.N. Tripathi and the present Director of NRCE, is Dr. Yashpal. He has informed that donkey’s milk actually contains negligible fats. 

Benefits of donkey milk

To everyone’s knowledge, the donkey milk surely must be having some good benefits that’s why the opening of dairy farm. Throwing light on the benefits of donkey’s milk, scientists has emphasized that “Donkey’s milk” has many medicinal properties and is used in many medicines. It is also used for treating some types of carcinoma, obesity, kinds of allergic diseases.  Over and above Donkey’s Milk is said to have properties aiding good Immune system. 

Along with these health benefits, Donkey’s milk gives some beauty benefits too as it is used in preparation of soaps, lip-balms and body-lotions informed the senior scientist of NRCE, Dr. Anuradha. Adding to this, she said, donkey’s milk contains antioxidants and anti-ageing properties.

According to her, Donkey’s milk is also best for children, as cow and buffalo’s milk can be allergic to some children, but donkey’s milk can never be allergic.

The cost of Donkey’s milk ranges from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 7000.
