KRBL Eyes Rs. 300 Crore from Health-Focused Blended Oils Under ‘India Gate Uplife’ Brand

Basmati rice giant KRBL Ltd has entered the edible oil segment with its newly launched India Gate Uplife range, aiming to tap into India’s growing market for health-focused blended oils. The company is targeting revenues of Rs. 200–300 crore over the next three years, riding on rising demand from health-conscious consumers.

Launched in February, the Uplife portfolio currently includes two premium variants: Gut Pro and Lite, priced between Rs. 192 and Rs. 199 per litre. Gut Pro combines 80% rice bran oil and 20% refined soybean oil to support digestive health, while Lite blends 80% rice bran oil with 20% sunflower oil for weight management benefits.

Ayush Gupta, Business Head (Domestic) at KRBL, said the company is challenging market leader Saffola in the 1.1 lakh tonne blended oils segment. “Saffola has long dominated this category. We aim to expand this space with innovation-led, functional oils that go beyond just heart health,” he said at a press briefing.

KRBL expects to sell 2,000 tonnes of these oils in the current fiscal year, generating Rs 50 crore in revenue. By FY2027, the company aims to achieve a sales volume of 8,000–10,000 tonnes, translating to a topline contribution of Rs. 200–300 crore.

The products are currently available across modern trade outlets, major e-commerce sites, and quick commerce platforms, with expansion into general trade planned. Production and packaging have been outsourced to third-party manufacturers.

KRBL, which reported Rs. 4,000 crore in revenue for FY2024-25, sees its foray into functional foods as a strategic pivot to diversify beyond rice. Marketing and Business Head Kunal Sharma noted that, unlike existing brands, KRBL’s offerings are among the few in the market to explicitly address gut health and weight control. The company is also exploring fortified staples and other value-added categories to further tap into India’s evolving nutrition needs.

India’s edible oil market stands at 243 lakh tonnes, of which refined oil makes up 66 lakh tonnes and rice bran oil just 2.6 lakh tonnes. The blended oil segment is still nascent, but fast gaining traction, according to KRBL’s internal assessment.

With health and wellness emerging as major purchase drivers, KRBL’s move signals a broader trend of legacy food brands branching out into functional, lifestyle-driven product categories.
