Ashok Chaudhary Elected Unopposed as New Chairman of Amul

Ashok Chaudhary has been elected unopposed as the new chairman of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the apex body behind India’s iconic dairy brand, Amul. He succeeds after the tenure of the previous office-bearers concluded this month.

The election was held on Tuesday at the GCMMF headquarters in Anand, with representatives from all 18 member dairy unions across Gujarat participating. Alongside Chaudhary, Gordhan Dhameliya, chairman of Rajkot District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (Gopal Dairy), was elected unopposed as vice chairman.

The appointments were confirmed by Anand District Collector and Election Officer Praveen Chaudhary, who noted that no other nominations had been filed for either post.

Ashok Chaudhary currently serves as the chairman of Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, popularly known as Dudhsagar Dairy. In his first statement after assuming leadership of the ₹55,000 crore federations, he pledged to prioritize the interests of the 36 lakh dairy farmers associated with GCMMF.

“I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me. Our goal is to strengthen the federation’s reach and ensure sustainable income growth for our farmer members,” said Chaudhary.

GCMMF, the country’s largest dairy cooperative federation, plays a pivotal role in India’s white revolution and dairy self-sufficiency, marketing a wide array of dairy products under the Amul brand. The two-and-a-half-year term of the previous leadership concluded this month, prompting the routine election.

Industry observers say the leadership change comes at a crucial time, as Amul expands its footprint across India and explores new categories, including fresh produce, health drinks, and exports. With strong regional representation—Mehsana and Rajkot being key dairy hubs in Gujarat—the new leadership is expected to carry forward Amul’s legacy while adapting to new market challenges.
